Unfortunately the hours we work in the cleaning industry does mean that staff are out early and in late. As Autumn turns to Winter and the clocks go back, before long staff will be leaving and returning home in the dark. We would like staff to have as many ‘safeguards’ as possible, especially those travelling and/or working alone.
The cleaning times rarely change so staff should be in the habit of leaving and returning at familiar times. Please inform family and friends of your whereabouts and tell them that if something unusual happens (you’re not back when you said you would be from work) then to call us in the office.
There are things you can do to help yourself like keep your mobile phone with you when working alone and try not to use your phone when walking to/from work down dimly lit streets as it lights up like a beacon and can attract unwanted attention. Most mobile phones have a ‘tracking’ system on them these days so activate it so family can see where you are.
In this modern world of Apps there are some good ones like http://getbsafe.com/ which can make things a little safer and offers an alternative tracking programme for your phone.
Getting a work buddy to travel/walk with you of course is ideal if you’re working in groups or getting a lift where you can, will always minimise risk but the message is to keep in contact and stay safe.
If you have any concerns or wish to discuss anything, please give us a call at anytime.
