Tidy growth as Tyneside cleaning company creates 100 new jobs + expands into new region

A multi-million pound, family-run commercial cleaning business, based in Newcastle, is exceeding its growth plans by opening a new office that could create up to 100 jobs by the end of 2015.

Edwards Commercial Cleaning provides a range of cleaning services to companies all over the UK and employs around 200 staff from its HQ in Jesmond.

Thanks to faster than anticipated development in 2013, the company is opening a new office near Leeds city centre to allow it to enter not only a new region, but also new markets.

Edwards Commercial Cleaning is investing around half a million pounds in its new operation by opening a small office with storage facilities in Beeston, as well as buying a number of new commercial vehicles and creating 100 jobs by the end of 2015, some of which will be at it’s Tyneside HQ.

Husband and wife team, Paul and Hazel Edwards, last year celebrated a decade in business with over 200 accounts on their books with businesses and organisations including the NHS, Home Group and Hoults Yard.

Despite the recession, Edwards Commercial Cleaning saw rapid growth in the areas such as commercial premises, shopping centres, factory and clinical establishments and in the last year alone 30+ new jobs have been created for local people with turnover peaking at almost £2 million with plans to increase this by another £1 million by the end of 2015.

Managing director of Edwards Commercial Cleaning, Paul Edwards, commented: “We’re exceptionally proud of the team on Tyneside that has made us so successful over the last decade. The last year in particular has seen a period of rapid growth and this is thanks to the commitment of our customer-focussed staff who understand our concept of quality and adding value for every client.

“We now plan to replicate this model in the Leeds region and we’re investing heavily so that we can grow rapidly. It’s a really exciting time for our company as we branch not only into a new region but hopefully new markets too.”

Edwards Commercial Cleaning offers a range of services including washroom and hygiene services, window cleaning, pest control and janitorial supplies as well as commercial cleaning.

The company was established in 2003 by Paul and Hazel Edwards, who live in Newcastle upon Tyne. Paul has worked in the industry for many years as a Divisional Manager for an International commercial cleaning franchising company before going in to business with an ex director back in 1998, while Hazel has spent much of her career working for local Government.

Edwards Commercial Cleaning has a range of accreditations including SafeContractor, ContractorPlus and Constructionline and operates to both ISO9001 quality ISO14001 environmental standards.
