Last year, we announced our collaboration with senior environmental consultant, Tamma Carel of Imvelo, to help us take meaningful action toward reducing our environmental impact. We worked closely alongside each other for over a 12 month period, then Tamma compiled a detailed report on our carbon usage, allowing us to set measurable, realistic goals. Well, the results are in, and we’re excited to share them with you!
The overall emissions for Edwards Commercial Cleaning were 63.20 tCO2. This was mainly due to direct purchase of fuels e.g. company owned transport and business travel. While this number provides a clear picture of where we stand, it’s also inspired us to act swiftly in reducing our carbon usage. We’ve set an ambitious goal to cut our overall emissions by 10%, and we’re already putting plans in motion to achieve this.
Current Initiatives
One of the key initiatives we’ve implemented is Journey Efficiency Planning. This is designed to reduce the frequency of multiple site visits per month. Through detailed audits, we ensure that fewer site visits are needed. This reduces our fuel consumption and overall travel emissions without compromising the quality of service we deliver.
In support of our remote workers, we’ve already installed solar photovoltaics with storage batteries. This makes home working more energy-efficient. Paired with our transition to BioVate Hygienics’ eco-friendly cleaning products, these steps reinforce our commitment to greener operations. Sustainability isn’t just a trend for us; it’s part of who we are and how we aim to grow.
But this is only the beginning!
Future Initiatives
We’ve started phasing out single-use plastic cleaning bottles and introducing reusable bottles made from 30% post-consumer material. This change not only cuts down on plastic waste but also reduces the emissions generated by waste disposal, as these reusable bottles will be refilled instead of discarded.
Perhaps the most exciting development is our gradual transition to more hybrid and electric vehicles. We are also exploring the potential of biodiesel for our vans. As we continue to invest in greener transportation options, we’ll lower our emissions from travel even further.
Stay tuned – there’s so much more to come!
